Seriously? How many of you that hold this view are also in favor of mandatory vaccinations of you and your children? I would submit the rather passionate drive for mandating drug testing welfare recipients is fueled by emotion. Furthermore, while I agree there are far too many abusing the welfare system, I contend for Lady Liberty, when I maintain mandatory vaccinations AND mandatory drug tests are unconstitutional and unwarranted.
The Fourth Amendment to the Constitution for the United States reads: “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”
Hence, where no crime is reasonably suspected of having been committed, there can be no lawful (constitutional) search or seizure. Emotions, no matter how passionately held, are not reasonable cause to restrict or violate another's rights, including the right to be secure in our persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures.
As soon as we, as a people, allow the rights of ANY group to be either restricted or violated, we open up the floodgates for the rights of ANY and ALL to be restricted or violated at the mere whim of those in authority or of whoever can successfully lobby those in a position of authority. We, in effect, become no better than hoplophobes who, based on their fears, feel justified in restricting the free exercise of our Second Amendment rights.
You see, this maxim extends to any and all of our natural rights as enumerated in the Bill of Rights. The power and authority of American secular government according to our founding documents lies with The People, who give our consent to be governed by those elected by The People into positions of authority. It is, therefore The People’s complacent ill-advised toleration of government restriction of and violation of our natural rights that has gotten us to this point in history, where people feel they can demand “mandatory drug testing”, mandatory vaccinations, and place “reasonable restrictions”, (as if there is such a thing!) on the free exercise of my Second Amendment rights with absolutely no consideration or slightest regard for the Bill of Rights or the very clear “shall not be infringed” clause of the Second Amendment.
Mandatory what!?! SERIOUSLY!?!
Better check your constitution.
